Course - The marathon, half marathon, 10K, and 5K will completely on the Springwater Trail, starting and ending in downtown Boring. The marathon begins at Boring Station Trailhead park and heads out onto the Springwater trail (paved pathway) until reaching Towle Road. You then turnaround and head back to the finish line. Once crossing the finish line for a half marathon check point, you repeat the same course a second time. The half marathon is a single loop of the marathon course, while the 10K and 5K courses are shorter out and back courses.
Race Turnarounds - The turnaround points will be well marked and manned by volunteers. They will all have road cones colored to match your bib. Look for the signs, look for the road cone, then make the turn and head for home!
Traffic - The route does follow the county roads, with just 1 signaled road crossing, which will be manned with our very own cross country volunteers. Therefore, we will not be closing any roads and runners will need to be aware of potential cars using the roads, so unless you have a crossing signal, you must obey traffic laws and wait. Take our word for it, in a contest of runner versus car, the runner loses. So please be careful. We will have volunteers pushing those crossing buttons where available and aiding visibility at other road crossings. Still, be ready to stop if needed. This isn't an Olympic Trial and adding a few seconds onto your time is not that critical. Plus, we aren't sure how big of bragging rights go along with winning the Boring Marathon, but certainly not worth risking life or limb in confronting a moving vehicle. You could be held up by an occasional sheep herd or a stray goat...work with it :)
Water and food - In general, we recommend consuming water and food daily as a matter of basic survival. As for the races, there will be plenty of refreshments at the start and finish and along each race route. We plan to have water and electrolyte drinks (great flavors, funny names) every few miles, and food at all the aid stations.
Port-a-potties - At start/finish and at major aid stations. Although wooded most of the route, our Parks and Recreation frown on using trees for your relief, so we have facilities at every aid station along the way.
Aid Stations - located from 1.5 to 4 miles apart with the majority falling approximately 2-3 miles apart.
